ABSTRACT
Modern research conducted using neuroimaging methods has provided a lot of valuable information about the plasticity of the human brain. Musical training has proven to be a useful framework for examining training-related plasticity in the human brain. The learning to play an instrument is a highly complex task that involves the interaction of different modalities e.i. visual, sensorimotor as well as higher-order cognitive functions like inhibition or working memory. The review highlights that music training can modify many aspects of brain function and structure. This paper also indicates significance of musical training for children's cognitive development, according to transfer of musical skills to other non-musical abilities. Furthermore, we provided information according potential use of musical training in children with developmental dissorders as well in adults with brain damaged.
