ABSTRACT
Objectives:
The aim of the article is to present the processes of assessing the commercialization potential of diploma theses within the so-called component commercialization.

Material and methods:
A survey questionnaire and a standard interview questionnaire were used to conduct the pilot study. The pilot survey was conducted in November and December 2022 on a group of 45 students of WSB in Gdańsk (currently WSB Merito University in Gdańsk) representing various fields and levels of study. The survey questionnaire was anonymous, the analysis concerned an issue known to the respondents - their own diploma theses. The research in the form of interviews was conducted on December 17 and 18, 2022 in the form of a telephone conversation and video conference on the ZOOM platform. Each interview lasted about 20 minutes.

Results:
This article shows changes in the approach to commercialization, assuming that iteratively created products can contribute to the construction of a model supporting the commercialization process. The research results indicate the openness of students, authors of diploma theses in the field of IT to participate in component commercialization. This form can be an effective tool for commercialization of the results of diploma theses, especially for IT students.

Conclusions:
The conducted research indicates the need for an in-depth assessment and analysis of the commercialization processes of broadly understood scientific research results and implementation work carried out by universities, in particular within the framework of component commercialization of the results of diploma theses. The conducted research indicates the need to develop a prognostic commercialization model, which should include components of diploma theses.
