The paper presents the theoretical knowledge of the environmental management systems according to the ISO norms. The directives related to the construction of an integrated management system for a  small or middle sized building firm, are presented in this work. This system should be based on the quality management system and the environmental management system. The questions related to the system integration are discussed. The applications of the Cleaner Production strategy in the building engineering are also discussed. Some examples of the ecological building engineering and the energy-saving building engineering are presented
