ABSTRACT
In this paper to describe the importance and role of intercultural education as
a priority in Polish education, the authors assumed the perspective of changes caused
by the dynamics of migration at the local and global levels, and the need to provide
a sense of security of societies that are the actors of these changes. Presented
were statistical data of migration from Poland and to Poland, to justify the need for
an interest in the variety of the consequences of this phenomenon, as well as legal
documents regulating migration policy in the country. Previous theoretical studies
and practical solutions in the field of intercultural education were cited. The authors
conclude their discussion with the urgent need to integrate intercultural education
into the education system at all levels. They recognise that current legal conditions
allow optimal execution of its tasks, however, the primary factor in its application is
the need to perceive opportunities and possibilities arising from cultural diversity
by policy makers not only at the local governments level but also the ministerial level.
Ensuring preparation for the acquisition of intercultural competencies of citizens
and migrants may result in peaceful coexistence in the same territory
