ABSTRACT
The energy sector, as one of the most important elements, necessary for
the proper functioning of the economy of each country, is also extremely
prone to corruption. In Poland and other states around the world, we observe
the existence of corruption, inter alia, in connection with the conclusion
of contracts for the construction of energy infrastructure, production
and distribution of fuel products, gas, and electricity. Entities carrying
out crimes by giving and receiving financial benefits are both individuals,
e.g. government officials and businesses. Income generated by the energy
sector constitute a significant source of income to the state budget, hence
assessing the phenomena of corruption in the area of the economy and
combating their causes and consequences in this field. This article aims to
answer questions on what is the phenomenon of corruption in the Polish
energy sector, by comparison, an analysis was made of the problem in the
European country (Italy) and the United States. Other goals of this article
are: assessment of the scale of corruption in this field and attempt to find
the causes of this type of abuse.
